外面阳光灿烂，微风轻拂，摇动着树枝沙沙作响。

我看到艾德站在不远处望着我。

我们互相凝视对方，他看到我一个人站在那里，却没有哭，默默地朝我走了过来。

我刚从地狱走过，满身仇恨和脏血，如同尸横遍野的战壕中幸存的士兵，惊慌而茫然地注视着头顶唯一的阳光。

艾德来到我身边。

他仰头看了我一眼，我真想将他抱起来，可我怕血浆会把他弄脏。

我们一起站在阳光下。

忽然间，艾德伸出手，拉住了我仍在发抖的手指。我全身都在往下滴血，很多人的血。艾德拉住我一瞬间，我终于忍耐不住，蹲下身将他紧紧搂在怀里。

——孩子是希望。

我抱紧了这团希望之光，泪水夺眶而出。

此刻，我活着在这里写下这些事情，也许不会有任何人看到其中内容。

叙述是一个重新审视了解自己的过程，我将自己从那个世界分离出来，经历了一次漫长的旅行。在这个过程中，我终于明白沃尔特先生为何要将他的苦恋留予纸上——描写真实的目的不只是为了让别人知晓，也是为了不让自己忘却。

我将罗恩和珍妮的尸体置于亚瑟身旁，这是我们共同的家园，我接管了果园，和艾德一起生活，无时无刻不在想念他们。

我们在倒塌的房外坐了一整晚。

这是个暗藏危机的世界，不管何时何地，我们都会面临新的挑战和危险，但是相对，希望与之并存。从那一刻开始，我决定要重拾起那些被我抛却的东西，勇气、宽容、爱与温情，我将尽我所能保护亚瑟交到我手中的东西。有时，我仍然能够感到他就在我身边，他需要我的想象，否则便会停在原地不动。

我想让他和他们都活得更长久些，只要永记在心，他们便不会消失。

上个月，我在艾德的房间里发现了几张照片，是他冒险从别墅的铁皮罐里找来的“重要物品”。其中有一张是沃尔特先生从寻人启事上剪下来的丽莎·贾斯特的印刷照，一位金发女郎，照片上她正在微笑。另外还有一张合影，人物是丽莎、艾德、亚瑟和一个看起来强壮的中年人。照片的背后写着每个人的名字，獾先生名叫布洛克。照片上的艾德咬着手指，显然不喜欢这样的场面，他使整张照片看起来不太愉快，然而这成了唯一的回忆：亚瑟将手放在艾德脑袋上，在照片里冲我微笑。

我小心翼翼地将它们放好。看着这些照片，我想起了“伊莎贝尔”，那是我母亲的名字。

外面，小镇来了一些人。他们正在寻找幸存者，并通过快乐的抵抗和积极的参与来表现自己，与环境抗争。他们喜爱这里的果园，并为之感到惊奇雀跃。也许他们能够成为新同伴。

出于某种原因，我似乎听到有人在暗处说，哦，亲爱的，我们就指望你了。

我转过身去，却没有见到罗德和爱玛的身影。他们总会惯用这种期待的口吻对我说话。

好的，我说，全交给我吧。

这个故事已到了结尾。当你读到最后一页时，我希望你能知道，也希望在天堂注视着我们的人知道，我将活着为过去赎罪，为重建一个新家园而尽绵薄之力。
